A Personal Retreat: Pause, Reflect, and Reconnect

Seeking silence, discernment, or rest? Step away for a while and find a peaceful space at Heritage to encounter God, alone or with a few close friends. You can also use this time for a personal development retreat, focusing on reflection, planning, and intentional growth.

Walk the gardens for time alone, bring a journal to the pond to write and reflect, or sit in the chapel for prayer. Explore walking trails, pause at benches tucked among the trees, and enjoy moments to think, plan, or consider your priorities. A personal retreat at Heritage provides the space to gain perspective and return to everyday life renewed.

Planning A Personal Retreat

Start by clarifying your goal. Are you seeking a spiritual retreat to deepen your connection with God, or a personal development retreat to reflect and set priorities? A clear intention helps you make the most of your time.

Decide on Your Duration

A retreat can be a few hours, a full day, or several days—whatever you need to gain perspective, reconnect with God, or recharge.

Choose Your Location

A change of environment helps you see priorities more clearly and sparks fresh thinking. Look for a retreat center with uninterrupted quiet, nature, and space to write, reflect, or pray. Heritage offers exactly this—gardens, walking trails, a pond, and a chapel—so you can craft a retreat that fits your intentions.

Plan Your Activities

Your retreat can be structured or flexible. Bring a journal, set aside time for meditation or prayer, take a walk in nature, or simply sit and reflect. For a more guided experience, you're welcome to register for upcoming retreats, events, and speaker series at Heritage.

The Benefits of a Solo Retreat

Space for self-discovery: Stepping away from daily life reduces distractions and allows room for deep thinking and honest reflection.

Clarity around what matters most: Time alone in a different setting helps you focus without pressure or outside noise.

Support for well-being: A solo retreat offers a natural pause for mental, emotional, and spiritual health—especially when life feels fast-paced.

Room for creativity: With fewer interruptions, new ideas surface more easily, often simply by slowing down.

A shift in perspective: Even a few days away can create meaningful change and support personal progress.

Time to consider what's next: A retreat creates space to think about the future and return feeling more prepared and grounded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a personal retreat?
A personal retreat is just what it sounds like: dedicated time set aside to step out of your everyday environment and focus on what’s most important to you. It can be spiritual, reflective, or restorative, offering space away from daily life to think clearly, pray, or reset your priorities.
How do you do a retreat on your own?
A solo retreat works best when you remove common distractions. Limit entertainment like streaming or social media, set boundaries around outside communication, and give yourself permission to slow down. The goal is not to fill every moment, but to create room for deep thinking and meaningful reflection.
How do you prepare for a personal retreat?
Preparation can be simple. Decide what you want to focus on, pack only what supports that intention, and leave behind what pulls you back into your daily routine. Choosing a destination that offers quiet spaces, access to nature, and room for reflection can make the experience more meaningful. Bringing a journal, a book, or materials for prayer can help guide your time without over-planning.
How long should a retreat last?
There’s no single right answer. For some, a few quiet hours can create a meaningful shift. Others benefit from a full day, several days, or even spacing retreats over two weeks for reflection and progress over time. What matters most is choosing enough time for clarity to happen.
I would recommend that EVERYONE visit Heritage, even if you are not Catholic, you can book a stay at the retreat and enjoy the beauty of the grounds. Everyone was so nice and helpful, I really can't wait to go back!

Every single aspect has been not only remarkable well thought out but is also beautifully executed. The attention to detail of the physical facilities is amazing, yet the attention to the spiritual aspects is even more inspirational. The staff, the accommodations were simply exceptional. Was remarkable from the time of arrival to the time of departure. Look forward to returning sometime soon.
