Locust Grove Cemetery
A Place of Remembrance
Locust Grove Cemetery, established in 1790, is the resting place of many of Georgia’s earliest Catholic settlers. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, this tranquil ground offers a sacred space for prayer and reflection. Each year, we come together to honor the souls who rest here with a special All Souls Day Mass, celebrated on the first Saturday of November—a gentle reminder of the enduring connection between past and present.
The History Behind This Place of Repose
Locust Grove Cemetery stands as the oldest Catholic cemetery in Georgia, established in 1790 by the state’s first Catholic congregation. These faithful pioneers, many of whom came from Maryland and Europe, laid deep spiritual roots in the area, creating a sacred space where generations could find rest and remembrance.
The cemetery reflects the story of a resilient community, preserving their faith through times of growth and hardship alike.

Today, our Heritage community embraces Locust Grove Cemetery as a vital part of our mission. More than just a historic site, it is a peaceful refuge for prayer, reflection, and connection to the past.
Through restoration efforts and sacred gatherings like the annual All Souls Day Mass, we ensure that the stories and sacrifices of these early Christians continue to inspire and bless all who visit.
